Internships

Practicum/Internship Opportunities: Learn While Making a Contribution

Journeys Toward Healing Counseling Center (JTHCC) offers practicum and internship opportunities for graduate students who seek experience working with a diverse population in a variety of therapeutic programs. these programs are agency-based and include individual, and family treatment modalities, including psychotherapy and Children's Therapeutic services and Supports. JTHCC works with students and their academic institutions to fulfill the training requirements of its interns and introduce them to relevant in-the field experiences. Our agency mentors, supervises and evaluates the performance of the interns to meet the needs of students and academic institutions. Interns may assist staff and/or provide direct service with supervision and have many opportunities to learn about services in mental health for children, adolescents, adults and families. To enhance their training experience, interns will attend agency clinical in-services on mental health services and case consultation meetings.

 

Journeys Toward Healing Counseling Center (JTHCC) services include: diagnostic assessments, family therapy, individual therapy, play therapy, psychological testing, Children's Therapeutic Services and Supports, and consultation with schools, day care centers, county social workers, primary care physicians, and other agencies. Additional learning opportunities, subject to an interns individual skill level, include development of treatment plans, progress notes, assessment administration, scoring, and discharge summaries.

 

The Practicum/Internship programs at JTHCC run year-round and Internship and practicum opportunities can range dependent on current need. Contact JTHCC to explore our internships opportunities in your area of specialization.

Journeys Toward Healing Counseling Center (JTHCC) requires two weeks from the date applications are received to process applications. During that time, the Practicum/Internship Coordinator along with a Mental Health Professional will conduct a phone and/or on-site interviews from those applicants under serious consideration for a JTHCC internship. Interviews will occur some time within the selection process. High consideration is given to applicants who have demonstrated a strong interest in children and family issues through service, advocacy, and academic studies, and are also supportive of JTHCC's counseling process.

 

Internship Selection Process

Application Components

Each applicant must submit the following:

 

  1. Completed and signed Employment Application Form
  2. Cover Letter (please see Employment Application Form for specifications)
  3. Copy of transcripts of all postsecondary coursework
  4. Copy of resume or vita
  5. Copy of diploma from highest degree attained
  6. Copy of driving record
  7. For licensed individuals, copies of current licenses and/or credentials
